Mary was anxious. Mary suspected that as the only woman on the board her job was more at risk than most peoples. She was a director of her company and she was under a lot of stress because her firm was about to be taken over and there was a lot of rumor around that there would be redundancies. She had been having headaches, sleeplessness and been moody recently and her husband, Bob had pointed out to her that she should go and see her doctor and try to find a way to calm down. She knew she had had taking it out on him, and giving him a hard time recently, even though she didn’t mean too. Her mother had always said that you hurt the one you love and here she was proving it.

She did go to see her doctor and was surpriused when he suggested yoga as the answer to her problems. “Isn’t that where you have to twist your limbs into funny positions and hum?”She asked seriously. The DR laughter. He said, ”It’s different these days”.. It’s all about relaxation. I want you to get home from work and forget everything about it, get out your yoga mat, sit on it, close your eyes and think about nice things. Do not even think about work. Take yourself to a desert island or wherever you want to go and spend at least 30 minutes there initially, then gradually increase it to one hour. “Bob will understand” he added. He might even take you out to eat or prepare dinner. It’s extremly important that get some relaxation Mary or the result will be driving yourself to an early grave.

I took his advice. I followed the Dr’s instructions, and Bob and I went out the next day and I bought a yoga mat. I know when I get home I will rolling out my yoga mat, and so I look forward to getting home, knowing that I will soon be in a world of my own.

Yoga Mats And Men

It may be something that could be unpopular to mention, then again I do not perceive yoga a a man’s only activity. I am absolutely persuaded that a number of could conflict with this however amongst most of the men I know, I am unable to think of at least one who enjoys practicing yoga. So far as I go, I’d use the garden shed if I wanted to meditate. Nearly all of my vital thinking will likely be done there anyways and that’s where decisions of major meaning are usually made. When I mentioned the subject to my wife she said that as per her acquaintances the majority of guys sat on top of toilet seats rather than yoga mats to do their thinking and she can be right. Though not really my particular thing, I can’t help but imagine all the times I’ve sat there waiting for what appeared to be forever. In time an embarassed colleague comes out tucking away his newspaper or whatever reading material suits him.

While people want ways to get fit plus be in good physical shape I have not come to know a man to take up yoga though I am certain some men must do. It’s just not probably the most manly man thing, now, is it? Extra activities including weight training, sports activities and golf are considerably more appealing to the male half of the population. Sitting on the yoga mat and posturing and chanting aren’t extremely manlike and sure to make a man the victim of office humor. Some activities are intended expressly for the ladies. Saying this doesn’t take into consideration the genuine yoga that originated in India many years back and is still practiced there today.

There should actually be a different term for the modern yoga e.g. “recreational Yoga” because those people who sit down or lie on top of yoga mats nowadays bear no resemblance to the original people and the yoga philosophy is gone in many cases. The way I understand it, it seems to me as if the trend is that lots of people start practicing yoga, but how many of them in fact stick with it? I’m wondering how many unused yoga mats are wedged inside of a corner someplace, collecting dirt as well as reminding somebody of how much more they ought to be doing in an effort to get healthier.

Yoga is an ancient philosophy that came from India about 5000 years ago. People who practice yoga nowadays are likely to be looking for a way to relieve the level of stress that the modern world throws at them on a daily basis but yoga is designed to stimulate both the body and min. Although some people do vigorous exercise in their yoga sessions some only adopt postures and meditate and the natural cotton yoga mat is ideal for this. It is soft and very lightweight and can be rolled up easily. Yoga mats usually have carrying handles for those who use their health centre or gym for sessions. Much more preferred by some ladies is the soft cotton mat as it is lighter and washable and take up very little space.

Yoga mats come in all colors and sizes and are made of various materials so the yoga mat you choose is almost entirely down to personal choice though if you carry out hard exercise that involves a lot of sweaty activity then a natural cotton material is obviously unsuitable and a rubber yoga mat would be more appropriate. Some people do develop a strange affection for their own yoga mat mostly because it is the first part of the ritual of their yoga session and just picking it up starts the process of relaxation however some people are of the opinion that says that yoga is much more important than the yoga mat you used.

Anything that is beneficial in relieving the stressed out lives of today’s society can only be a good thing. No matter what you choose to do whether it is fishing, hunting, or sport, so long as it is beneficial to you, then it is a good thing. People may scoff at someone’s attachment to a yoga mat but is it not the same as having a favorite golf club or fishing reel or any other of the lucky mascots that people adopt?

How I Learnt To Sell Yoga Mats

May 21, 2010 · Filed Under Yoga · Comment

I own and manage and run my own sporting goods store and I had noticed a trend that I had to take notice of, namely yoga. I had an increasing number of customers asking paricularly for yoga mats, but also for other yoga related items. I decided to check with my supplier and he admitted that he was surprised that it had taken so long for me to notice that yoga was a growing activity and that most of my rivals had been selling such items for a long time.I told him I would like to get the products in stock, and he produced a catalog that was so large I thought must be for the full range of goods that he sold but that turned out to be just yoga related items.

He told me all about the basics of yoga and how it was seen as one of the best activities for stress relief. When I saw the number of different yoga mats and bags and bolsters and blankets and even special yoga clothing I thought that I had better take it up myself. It was an slip up on my part and I was a little irritated with myself that I had ignored demand for so long because it must have been a year ago that I had had my first enquiry regarding yoga mats but I was just so busy and so set in my ways that I had ignored it until now.

I sold my first yoga mat as the stock was being delivered, so i was not too alarmed at the fact that I spent a lot more than promised on stock, and ever since my sales had grown and I regretted that it was an opportunity I had passed up for too long. The popularity of yoga was something I had underestimated.

Thick Yoga Mats

September 30, 2009 · Filed Under Yoga · Comment

What is referred to as a premium yoga mat usually means an extra thick mat (although not always) or a mat that offers extra support and traction so that you won’t slip. Premium yoga mats are durable and usually will help you with grip and traction. A premium yoga mat may also refer to an eco-friendly and organic choice of yoga mat. Many companies who sell yoga mats have a ‘premium’ mat range.

When it comes to yoga mats, it really does come down to personal preference and it may be a bit of a trial and error game until you find the mat that is perfect for you. Although premium yoga mats are popular, some people still prefer the ‘standard’ type of yoga mat or possibly even a cotton yoga mat.

The idea of practicing yoga on a luxurious, soft and extra comfortable mat appeals to many people. Premium or thick yoga mats mean more padding and extra cushioning usually without being too squishy or unstable.

Usually the standard yoga mat size is 1/8-inch.2 mm) and what is referred to as the thick yoga mat is double this at 1/4-inch (6.4 mm). But just to confuse us, some manufacturers refer to their 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) yoga mats as ‘standard’. It makes better sense to refer to the 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) mats as ‘standard’ as there really isn’t anything else that could be used as a yoga mat that would be this thin. When you buy your thick yoga mat, look at the manufacturer’s size chart and make sure it is the thickness you require. There are other yoga mat sizes other than these, usually the thickest is 1/2-inch (12.8 mm) which is very soft and thick.

A premium yoga mat is a luxurious choice but have an open-heart and be prepared to trial and error a few mats before you find ‘the one’. There are a few creative ways that you can re-use your old yoga mats so you won’t have to feel guilty about buying a ‘new and improved’ one.
